While I was searching through the ELA technology standards in Florida, one standard that stuck out to me was for 6th grade. The standard reads, "Use technology, including the Internet, to produce and publish writing as well as to interact and collaborate with others; demonstrate sufficient command of keyboarding skills to type a minimum of three pages in a single sitting." In other words, students are expected to use a specific forum to create their writing, collaborate with their peers, and view the works of their classmates. The students are also expected to have enough focus and mental capacity to write a certain amount by the end of the class period. With my current skill set, I do feel prepared to implement this standard. Using the internet in the classroom is often a little exciting to students, and having a social element with being able to view the work of others and collaborate is something that I believe the students would latch onto easily. I have used MS Word for almost my entire academic career. My very first memory using MS Word for school was my third grade biography on Edgar Allen Poe. However, come to think of it, I remember that it was required for the paper to be typed, but we had never had any in-class instruction of how to use a word processor like MS Word. We had computer labs, but up until third grade we only played academic games on them; we did not learn how to type or any of the programs you could use to do so. I was fortunate to have a computer at home and a parent to teach me how to use MS Word, but I wonder about my classmates who did not have the same privileges. This definitely speaks to the digital divide and how those around me were probably affected. I continued to use MS Word for the rest of my academic career, but I never had to use many functions other than changing the font, size, spacing, and adding photos. Technology has become an integral part of the classroom environment in the past few decades. As the world becomes more tech savvy, the way students learn has evolved as well to incorporate this into their lives in order to keep up with the times. Technology has given teachers different methods of teaching that they did not have before, such as computer games and online programs, that were not an option for teachers in the years prior to the 21st century. Technology allows teachers to reach their students in multiple ways, which may help students become better learners in the long run from being able to adapt to different forms of instruction. Overall, teachers have integrated technology into instruction for the purpose of evolving with the world and for accessing different modes of education. Hello classmates! Welcome to my blog. Since we'll be in this class together for the next few months, here's some information about me. I'm a first year student at FSU from Jacksonville, Florida (Duuuuval, I guess). I'm not really sure what I want to do with my life after I graduate. I know that  I want to help people and make this world a better place. Maybe I'll run for president or something who knows. I like to read, spend time with my friends, and dance with my team, Capitill State (even though I'm not really good).
